Destination of the Day – Taipei

The Tango Taipei XinYiLast June marked an important date for Taipei as the first (unsupervised) mainland Chinese tourists arrived bringing with them a renewed interest in the region and some much needed tourist revenue. The capital city boasts a huge culinary scene where world-famous Chef, Joël Robuchon opened up a Taipei restaurant back in November 2009. Lots of new construction and a beautiful countryside makes this an ideal setting for a vacation to hot springs, gorgeous mountains and beautiful beatches. The government has spared no expense and offered travelers the TaiwanTourist Bus Travel Service which offers excursions to a cable-car ride, a boat tour and an electric-scooter rental. Taipei’s room rates are also the most affordable in the region. Best time to travel is October and November with less rainfall and temperatures in the mid-70s. A great place to stay is the The Tango Taipei XinYi which is located near the world’s second-tallest building the 1,700-foot Taipei 101 Tower. Great rooms offering 42-inch plasma TVS and a Jacuzzi tub, available from $137.
